Up-and-coming writer, director and producer, Chee Keong Cheung, has been something of a rising auteur in the UK for some time now. Since spearheading the British action hit, 12, and the ambitious, gangster-themed co-production, Bodyguard: A New Beginning, fans from far and wide have been wondering what will come next. His last 2 films combined major stars with exciting new talent and pushed the boundaries on what was considered possible in low budget, independent action cinema

Following a recent announcement at Comic Con in San Diego this year highlighting his latest film, Zombie Apocalypse (working title) a martial arts-packed, action horror movie, audiences and critics cannot wait to hear more on the production. Excitingly, the prestigious expo also welcomed Chee’s new Executive Producers on the film, actor/producer Carlos Gallardo (El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and Kevin Eastman, co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and owner of Heavy Metal Publishing.

In Zombie Apocalypse, when zombies start to take control of the world they turn into malevolent versions of their former selves with any previous physical combat skills enhanced to almost superhuman level, making eradication near impossible. Into this seething hell a squad of eight Special Forces soldiers are assigned a suicide mission to rescue a scientist from a city ruled by the undead.

With the exception of Carlos Gallardo, who took the lead role in Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi, and who will feature in one of the leads here, no further cast information has been revealed yet but more will be revealed soon. What’s clear is that despite Chee’s very impressive work on relatively low-budget films like 12 and Bodyguard: A New Beginning, Zombie Apocalypse is looking to be his biggest and boldest yet, reaffirming Chee as one to watch!

When more news becomes available on Zombie Apocalypse, Scream will bring readers the latest news and interviews with the stars and filmmakers! So stay tuned…
